Seems Like Yesterday ...

Seems like yesterday this was the view from our new house in Cloverdale at Concord Drive Dale City Virginia in May 1970. Eegads that was 48 years ago!

When Neighbors Were Like Family and Forever Friends

Denise and Akuvi were my Baltimore mother's neighbors who were so special.

Fluffy and the Jetta

Fluffy liked to live outside our house with us at times. She was either Marys or the  family across the street. She liked the warmth of the Jetta. She seemed to be connected to us on a "soul" level.

Did You Ever Have a Favorite Uncle Growing Up?

I did. 

More than one actually. 

"Boots" was one.
The  youngest Jung brother.

Came home 

Worked in Post Office.

He would always give me coins to "bank" in our school bank on Fridays. Back then banks had banks in elementary schools where kids learned the value of saving and deposited money into their accounts.

Kind uncle.

Pleasant uncle.
A sense of stability when around him.

Great sense of humor.

Gave each day a smile to start the day.

He was born in December so this must have been a birthday celebration.

Going through papers in recent years I learned how hard it was to get a job coming home from the WWII with a wounded foot.

And then while in college I learned through Boots how painful cancer is on loved ones and their whole family. We lost Boots to lung cancer back in the late 50s-60s. I still miss him... one of the Greatest Generation!

When Cousins and Bestie Friends AND THEIR FAMILIES were forever friends

On the back it says Elsie Holmes who was 508's cousin or even their double first cousin
And it says Dorothy Brown... I can remember growing up and she and her husband and children and their grand children stayed forever friends and visited at 508 frequently.

Jake Continued

His sense of family and home was unusual for a dog  in that it was bigger than just one family. He had a sense of community responsibility and happiness. He was different to people visiting than those that lived close to his house. He was kind to smaller dogs that lived nearby. He loved welcoming and protecting those of his perceived community. He loved interacting with others.  He enjoyed being the mayor of Battle Park Drive!

Jake and JW

Jake moved in across the street in our Spotsy Va  years. From the moment he saw us and we saw him he felt and acted like we and our house were a part of his home. He would be there to greet us when we came home from work. Day or night if he was out when we came home or went out he would be there to see us. We loved that dog!
